The Exumas

Countless islands, crystal-clear turquoise waters, kilometre’s of sandy beaches and incredible flora and fauna are awaiting you in The Exumas.

The Bahamas offers amazing sea kayaking and endless opportunities for an array of trips. Most of the kayaking activity is focused on the Exuma Cays chain of over 300 sandy islands. The Exumas offer sheltered paddling and isolation for those willing to go a bit further; however, if you stick to the main routes, it is incredibly busy. For those that do not have access to portable boats, Out-Island Explorer’s offers guided tours and rental options. Their google map of sample routes is also an invaluable resource for kayaking in the Exumas.

Aside from the Exuma’s, not much information is available for kayaking in the Bahamas. A few long traverses of the Caribbean have included crossings of The Bahama Islands, and there are a few kayak clubs doing shorter trips. However, much remains to be discovered by kayak, including a circumnavigation of Andros Island – the largest island in The Bahamas with the third-longest reef in the world and the largest national park in the country; a paddle the length of the remote and shark-infested Ragged Islands; or an exploration of Great Inagua Island searching for the stunning Caribbean flamingo.
